Sources close to the self-proclaimed Tripoli government told this newsroom that the Tripoli Transport and Telecommunications Minister was barred from stopping over in Malta on his way to attend a Rome conference known as CBRNe.
Sources said that the ‘minister’ – Ramadan Boamied - was meant to leave from Misurata on a Medavia flight yesterday afternoon and was due to stop in Malta enroute to Rome but restrictions were issued “by the Maltese government”, barring him from stopping here.
A meeting was held between Tripoli representatives yesterday afternoon to discuss what sources described as an “escalating problem”, referring to the decision taken to bar the minister from travelling to Malta.
Sources said that the Maltese government, at one point, had a change of heart and gave the green light for the minister to travel via Malta but it was too late in the day and a decision was taken by Tripoli for the minister not to attend the summit. Sources also claimed that the Attard embassy’s chief of security – Awena Omar M.A. arrived in Malta on Tuesday night on a Medavia flight but was asked to purchase another ticket to leave the country by airport officials who were instructed to do so, which he did yesterday. He is currently in Istanbul.
